Homework Policy
Aims:
1.That the children learn to organise their work
2.That the children take responsibility for their work
3.That the children form good work habits
4.The development of work and study skills on a gradual basis aiming at independent study by senior level.
5.That the parents are given an opportunity to see their child’s work, ability and co-operative skills.
6.That parents experience working with their children on an individual basis.
Objectives:
1. To consolidate what is learnt in class
2. To practice existing concept and skills.
3. To develop a link between school and home.
Homework Schedule
Homework will be set each night at the discretion of the teacher.
No formal homework will be set at the weekends but from time to time, some project work may be set.
Time Duration and Content of Homework
Junior Infants
No formal homework, occasional tasks may be set.
Senior Infants
Pre-reading and reading activities. Some worksheets in Maths and English.
10 minutes duration
1st and 2nd class
Reading both formal and library reading. Maths and workbook activities may be set.
15 to 25 minutes duration
3rd and 4th class
Reading both formal and library.
A variety of tasks may be set in various subjects areas.
25 to 35 minutes
5th and 6th class
Reading
A variety of tasks may be set in all subject areas
40 to 50 minutes
Other information
If children exceed the recommended time and parents are satisfied that the child applied themselves to the task, the parent should sign the homework and leave a note for the teacher.
